The Yolo Frontloaders Monthly Shoot
Every month, on the 3rd sundy of the month beginning at 9:00AM in the summer and at 1:00 PM during the winter, Yolo Frontloaders has a blackpowder shoot at The Yolo Sportsmans Club on the specialty range.
The available categories of competition for the shoot are:
- Rifle - muzzle loaded, round ball only
- Pistol - muzzle loaded, round ball only
- Shotgun - muzzle loaded only
- tomahawk and knife throwing
The number of categories that actually happen depend on the number of participants and the weapons that they bring.
Participants are encouraged, though not required to dress in period garb appropriate to the Mountain Man era (late 18th - mid 19th century).

Things to Know
If you are a newcomer to blackpowder shooting, please come on out. We typically have a few spare rifles available and we will be happy to let people try their hand at it. That being said, there are a few things to know:
- We fire real blackpowder weapons at our shoots and we use lead bullets - sometimes of considerable size. Besides the considerable smoke from the blackpowder, there is some amount of lead dust in the air. If you are pregnant or nursing, we suggest that you not come out.
- Blackpowder is explosive.
Absolutely NO SMOKING on or in the vicinity of the firing line - Firearms are loud. Eye and ear protection is strongly recommended around the range and are required on the firing line. We normally have a supply of ear and eye protection to lend.
- Yolo Sportsmans Club is an active firearms range. If you come to visit, you MUST keep pets and children under tight control at all times.
- If you are or appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you will not be allowed on or near the firing line, nor will you be allowed to handle any weapons.
